About L'Amérique pleure

More than 20 years after their creation, Les Cowboys Fringants is currently experiencing a renewed enthusiasm with the public. The main reason ? The new song L’Amerique Pleure, which will undoubtedly become one of the important pieces of the group, according to Jean-François Pauzé. The Journal spoke with the group's main lyricist. When we see the success that America is crying a few months after its launch, can we say that this is one of the biggest extracts for the group since Shooting Stars in 2004. " I think so. With the little perspective we have had since the album was released [in October]. I think we hit a big hit with this song. The reactions from the radios and the fans during the show is quite impressive. From the first concert, people knew the song by heart and there were even some who did the choreography! In almost 25 years of career, it is quite rare that this has happened to us! " Do you remember the exact moment when America was crying? "I started the text when I was working on the October album. I had a couple of tweaks, but it was not the same melody. When we were working on the new album, I remembered this text lying in my drawers. The creation therefore started around 2014 and it ended in 2019! " Did you feel that the group had a special song in their hands? "When I sent the models, it was unanimous. Everyone was tripping over the song and saying it would be a success. But that often doesn't mean anything. Sometimes there are songs [which] we think will work and they are potato. Or it's the other way around, like with Merchant Marine. We didn't think it would be a radio hit. " Why does America cry seem to connect so strongly with the public? "There are many people who tell us that this is exactly what they think, that we managed to synthesize their thoughts in a 200-word song. It is a great pleasure to see that we are able to be unifying and to put into words what people feel. "
