This “mom song†is one that can bring emotion and fun. This song is showing Meghan’s thanks to her mom for being the best mom she can. She is also expressing the love her mom gives towards her, to her fans and of course, her mother!
Meghan Trainor's mom, Kelli, earns a vocal credit on this tune thanks to the inclusion of a phone call between her and her lead-artist daughter. The "All About That Bass" singer explained to OfficialCharts.com how the collaboration happened: "With that session, I wrote and produced the song with my little brother at home. I then took it to this big producer called Johan Carlsson who I love, and I asked him to beef it up. We re-wrote the verses and beefed up the production with real horns, because it's a doo-wop-y song, but we didn't have bridge for it. He suggested we call her up and record her on a big microphone, so I called her and said, 'I really love you mum... tell me how much you love me!', and we recorded her response and cut it up. I've played it to a few people and they just break."
Meghan Elizabeth Trainor (born December 22, 1993) is an American singer-songwriter. Interested in music from a young age, she wrote, recorded, and produced three independently released albums between 2009 and 2011.
Trainor rose to fame after signing with Epic Records in 2014 and releasing her debut single "All About That Bass", which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for eight consecutive weeks and received a diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The song drew criticism for its lyrical content and was included on her debut major-label studio album, Title (2015), which was also supported by the top-10 peaking "Lips Are Movin" and "Like I'm Gonna Lose You", and achieved a number one debut on the US Billboard 200 and triple platinum certification from the RIAA. Trainor's second major-label studio album, Thank You (2016), was led by "No", which reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The album debuted at the same position on the US Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA. Her third major-label studio album, Treat Myself, was released in January 2020.
Trainor is influenced by music from the 1950s and 1960s and is known for her throwback style, with her lyrics frequently referring to body image. She has received several awards and nominations, including a Grammy Award, four ASCAP Pop Music Awards, and two Billboard Music Awards. Outside of music, Trainor has lent her voice to animated films and served as a judge on The Four: Battle for Stardom (2018) and currently serves as a coach on The Voice UK.
